Bethany Hamilton’s Story on ESPN Tonight!

ESPN is commemorating women’s history month and in March it will devote an array of its assets to tell tale of the inspirational side of exceptional women in the world of sports, culminating with a one-hour special, Her Story, hosted by SportsCenter host Hannah Storm.

The Her Story special will highlight up-and-coming athletes, as well as the issues they face, notably teenage surfing phenom Bethany Hamilton, who returned to her sport after a shark attack took her left arm in 2003. Bethany Hamilton’s extraordinary comeback after being attacked by a shark is an inspiration to me. I mean the day after she got attacked she was quoted as saying, “I will surf again.” Then 8 months later with a top showing in the world (national) surfing association, she was given the ESPY award for “Best Comeback Athlete” and the girl continues to rip it!

Watch it tonight on ESPN at 8pm EST and 5pm PST.

Women Athletes Getting Equal Prize

Still Newsworthy –ESPN proudly announced the news back in October of 2008 that the X Games and Winter X Games will feature equal prize money for both men and women. It started with the Winter X Games 13 that were recently held  in Aspen last month. The men and women athletes now will compete at all X Games events equal cash awards.  it’s not just at the X Games, recently The Burton Global Series has also stepped up and evened the pay.

It’s great to see  the progression of women in action sports getting the respect they deserve. Big thanks to all the efforts  that made this a reality!
